Resolutions are so boring...

... nonetheless, all two people who read this blog are about to be subjected to mine. Honestly, I've never been much for resolutionifying and this is probably the first time I've taken the trouble to write any down in years. The main reason I'm writing them here is to remind myself - feel free to send reminders of your own if (when) you catch me slacking off.

I want to read a new book every month - fiction or non-fiction, but I'm not talking grocery-store-best-sellers. I'll try to remember to tell you what I've picked and, afterwards, if it's any good.

I am going to roast a chicken - it's silly that I've never tried, but it's true! Feel free to send any tips and recipes if you have them.

I'm going to find something to blog about at least twice a month. I'll try to make it interesting.

I'm going to create something every week - be it a doodle, painting, crafted project or piece of writing. When my whatever doesn't turn out perfectly, I'm not going to worry about it.

I am going to hunt down and perfect "my" from-scratch go-to dessert. Then I'm going to make it all the time. Again, suggestions welcome.

I'm going to break my long-walk record of 12 miles in one go... 18 would be nice.

I'm going to visit three countries I haven't been to yet. (Already have two planned, so maybe this one is too easy?)

I AM GOING TO START SPEAKING SOME FRENCH ALREADY. Enough stalling. Maintenant!

I'm going to try to learn a little German while I'm at it because I should. Genau.

I'm sure I'll think of some more - and you?

Edit#1:

I'm going to make a skirt - and actually wear it.

Damn, you can't imagine how long it took till I figured out what you have meant with Resolutions.
Even tough I used Leo!
First hit: Resolution = Auflösung (which in fact would mean breakup)
Second hit: Resolution = Resolution (in sense of hi-Res)
Third hit: Resolution = Auflösung (on a scale)

So my first thoutght was: "What the f*** is going on? R u going to stop this blog or what??"
Then I thought: "No, can't be!"
So I gave my best, to read through all the possible translations and try to fit them in to your text - once NOT cross-reading (skim-reading??)!
And FINALLY I figured out you're talking bout new years pledge (resolution). :-D

OMG This was a hard one.

So guessing, I'm one of the two people mentioned in your text, I accept the challenge and try to give some suggestions.

;-)

Cheerio

Oh, sorry Max! You got it right, though - pledges. We've always called them "resolutions" as in "I resolve to do better at X, Y and Z." Glad I could challenge you on this snowy day!

I can help you with the german part.

cooking is not my speciality so can't help you with that.

books? hmm..do you know "I'm a stranger here myself" by Bill Bryson? It made me laugh.

Yeah I know no German at all - I can pretty much read a menu but that's the extent of it... and most days I don't feel like my French is any better! I haven't read that book, but I do have one of his sitting here on my shelf, un-read. I'll move it to top shelf so I remember I have it! Thanks, King Jürg! ;-)

which one of bill do you have there?

german: just let me know what you want to learn.

king: do you have this tradition with the 'cake'(more of a bread) in the US too on the threekingsday? (i hope you know what i'm talking about)

The closest we have is a King Cake in New Orleans for Mardi Gras : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_cake

In all the time we've been here, I have never tried one of those kings cakes - I should fix that!

Well, it's the same tradition it seems but a different cake.

In our cake there is a small king in it (in one of the pieces) whoever gets it is King and gets the cheap paper-crown served with the cake. :)

The cake is sweet, mostly with raisins in it. I love it. I always buy one for myself and eat it all alone. No wonder, I get king every year, lol. :D

good resolutions!!! an 18 mile walk! wow!!

ok here are mine:
hit the gym and get my pre-baby body back (duh)

and stop talking badly about people- myself included! It's hard not to succumb to the gossip but I am going to try to follow the ol' "if ya don't got nuthin' nice to say, don't say nuthin' at all" rule. I also don't need Abbie hearing me talk about hot "fat" and "disgusting" I am- I want her to have the self-esteem I did not have- after all she is PERFECT! :)

I read your blog, silly! And you should ask scott about his roast chickens. He makes great ones, and they're super easy.
